What Camera Gear Do I Travel With?

Traveling, especially when flying, with all of your gear can be daunting. It's heavy, bulky, and unfortunately breakable. I try to be picky and reasonable about what I do and don't need, so here's what you'll find in my bag, plus what I'm still missing to complete my setup.

A Tripod
This tripod folds up small but still feels sturdy enough that I trust it with my camera. I'll add an anchor bag when I need a little more stability (looking at you Iceland).

DJI Mini 5 Pro
A new upgrade for me after years with the DJI Mini 2. A small, powerful and fun addition, but again very trip dependent. I always check to make sure I can even fly where I plan on going before packing it.

The camera on this thing is truly wild. It's typically still my least favorite photo tool, but the video is great and the zoom is incredible.

Olympus Stylus
Dipping my toe back into film after years away from it with this cute little camera. It doesn't come with me every time, but it's always fun when it does. See the link below for the film I use!

Lens Protection Sleeves
These are my favorite travel photography accessories. When traveling I typically carry my camera in a larger crossbody purse, which can get tricky with multiple lenses. These add a little extra protection without the bulk. I love them.

What I'm Missing
Something in between the point-and-shoot and my full setup. I'd love to jump into the Fujifilm world to fill that gap, but I'm open to any other suggestions people have!

Canon R6 Mark II
I recently upgraded to this camera and wow, I could not be more impressed. The biggest struggle that pushed me to this body was needing better low-light performance, and this thing performs. Also yes, I carry this around with me most of the time.

Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM Lens
This is on my camera 95% of the time when I am exploring with my R6. It's not too heavy, and it lets me capture a whole range of shots with just one lens. Most days this is all I need as its flexibility is unmatched.

Canon RF 70-200mm F4 L IS USM Lens
This one is trip-dependent, whether I'll want to really carry it around and use it enough to pack it. I won't typically have this on me all day, but some of my absolute favorite photos I've ever taken were shot with this lens.

A Digital Point-and-Shoot
I bring either my Canon SX610 HS or Nikon Coolpix S800C on most trips for a fun, casual vibe. They're great for when I don't want to lug my big camera around but still want something more than an iPhone photo.

(Both are older models that are hard to find new now. If you're hunting for something similar, look for a compact point-and-shoot with optical zoom, like a Canon PowerShot or Nikon Coolpix from a recent generation.)
